Mice and rats are commensal rodents, meaning they thrive by living near humans and relying on us for food, water, and shelter. In Central Ohio, they become a significant problem in the fall and winter when dropping temperatures drive them indoors.

They are incredibly stealthy and agile. A mouse can squeeze through an opening the size of a dime, and a rat only needs a gap the size of a quarter. They are primarily nocturnal, meaning you are more likely to hear them scratching in your walls at night than see them during the day.

The Hidden Dangers

Rodents are not just a nuisance; they are highly destructive and dangerous to your health.

• Fire Hazards: Rodent teeth never stop growing. To keep them filed down, they constantly gnaw on materials in your walls, frequently stripping the insulation off electrical wires and causing short circuits or house fires.
• Disease Vectors: They constantly leave droppings and urine wherever they travel. They are known carriers of Hantavirus (a severe respiratory disease), Salmonella, and Leptospirosis.
• Secondary Pests: Rodents often bring fleas, ticks, and mites into the home, introducing entirely new pest problems to your living spaces and pets.
